Brazil agriculture: Wheat, soy, and sugar markets face volatility

The Brazilian agricultural sector is facing diverse market shifts across major commodities. Wheat prices are rising due to a projected 27.1% reduction in the 2025/26 harvest, with Conab estimating a yield of 5.74 million tons. Excessive rainfall and disease have also threatened grain quality, particularly in Paraná and São Paulo, affecting suitability for flour production.

Soybean markets show varied trends. In Mato Grosso, rising international prices in Chicago have encouraged producers to accelerate sales for both current and future crops. Meanwhile, in Acre, soybean prices rose by 6.87% due to increased local demand, despite a decline in regional exports.

In the sugar sector, production forecasts for the Center-South region have been revised downward. Hedgepoint reduced its 2026/27 sugar production estimate to 38.5 million tons, citing lower sucrose content and a shift in the production mix caused by heavy rains. This reduction suggests potential global supply stress. On international exchanges, raw sugar prices have seen volatility, recovering slightly after hitting recent lows, supported by lower production prospects in Europe and Asia.
