Sugar prices in India decline amid ample supply

Domestic sugar prices in India have experienced a significant decline due to ample supply and subdued buying interest. In major producing states such as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, prices have dropped by several hundred rupees per quintal.

In Delhi and Kanpur, wholesale prices saw a notable decrease of approximately Rs 850 per quintal between September 1 and September 11. Retail prices have also eased in various cities, with reductions of up to Rs 4 per kg observed in Raipur and Chennai, and Rs 2 per kg in Mumbai.

Market reports indicate that government measures aimed at controlling retail sugar prices have added pressure to the market in Uttar Pradesh. While prices in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have fluctuated, the overall trend shows a broad-based decline across major markets including Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Guwahati.
