Sui Foundation invests $30M in DATA Network for blockchain migration

The Sui Foundation has announced a $30 million investment in DATA Network, a protocol focused on AI training data. This strategic partnership will see DATA Network migrate from its independent blockchain to operate as a native protocol on the Sui network.

As part of the transition, DATA Network’s Trace registry—which tracks the origin and licensing of AI training data—will be integrated into the Sui ecosystem. Additionally, Walrus, a decentralized storage layer within Sui, will become the default storage component for applications operated by the DATA Foundation.

The decision to retire the standalone blockchain is driven by economic efficiency and the desire to avoid duplicating infrastructure already provided by Sui. Existing DATA tokens will be migrated to the Sui network at a one-to-one ratio, with current vesting schedules and governance rights remaining intact. The current independent chain will remain operational until the migration is finalized, with a detailed schedule to be released by the foundations in the future.
