Sui blockchain ecosystem expansion
Overview
Mysten Labs launched Hashi, a Bitcoin financial network on the Sui blockchain designed to allow Bitcoin to serve as loan collateral. Through this network, users lock Bitcoin in multi-signature vaults on the Bitcoin network to receive hBTC tokens on the Sui chain. Hashi has secured over $500 million in commitments from more than 20 partners.
In a related development, the Sui Foundation announced a $30 million investment in DATA Network, a protocol for AI training data. As part of this agreement, DATA Network will migrate from its independent blockchain to operate as a native protocol on the Sui network. Following the migration, the original DATA chain will be decommissioned, and existing tokens will be converted to the Sui network at a one-to-one ratio. The DATA Foundation plans to utilize Walrus as its default data storage layer.
The integration will include the DATA Network’s Trace registry, which tracks the origin and licensing of AI training data, into the Sui ecosystem. The transition to the Sui network is intended to improve economic efficiency and avoid duplicating existing infrastructure.
Recent reports indicate that Sui Network has exceeded $500 million in institutional commitments across its decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, though specific deployed liquidity and daily trading volumes have not been disclosed. Technical updates now integrate the Bitcoin blockchain as a security reference for Sui contracts, which hold cryptographic rights tied to Bitcoin. Furthermore, the Sui Agent Payments feature has been introduced, enabling autonomous software agents to pay for Alibaba Cloud services using USDC with predefined spending limits.
