Quetta train bombing kills over 30, claimed by Baloch Liberation Army

A suicide car bomb detonated near a railway track in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan's Balochistan province, on May 24‑25, 2026. The blast hit a shuttle train carrying Pakistani security personnel, their families and civilians heading to Eid al‑Adha celebrations. Initial reports listed 24 deaths; later statements from provincial officials raised the death toll to more than 30, with injuries exceeding 70. Three coaches and the engine were derailed, two coaches overturned, and nearby buildings and vehicles were damaged.

The outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility, describing the attack as a suicide bombing targeting the military shuttle. Pakistani leaders condemned the act, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti denouncing it as a "cowardly act of terrorism" and promising a crackdown. China’s foreign ministry also expressed condolences and reiterated its support for Pakistan’s counter‑terrorism efforts.
