Sukabumi earthquake hits southwest Java with magnitude 5.7
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck the waters southwest of Sukabumi, West Java, on Sunday morning at 10:30 WIB. The shallow earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the seismic event does not pose a tsunami threat to the southern coast of West Java. Analysis indicates the earthquake was triggered by the subduction of the Indo-Australian Plate, with a source mechanism identified as oblique thrust movement.
Tremors were felt in the Sukabumi Regency areas of Surade, Cibitung, and Tegalbuleud, with an estimated intensity of II MMI. As of the latest reports, there have been no official accounts of casualties or significant structural damage, and no aftershocks had been detected immediately following the main event.
