Gogunda sees infrastructure growth despite security risks

The Gogunda area in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, formerly a Maoist stronghold, is experiencing significant developmental changes. Following the establishment of a camp by the 74th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), basic infrastructure such as roads, electricity, schools, and Anganwadi centres has been introduced to the region.

While these improvements have eased daily life and reduced local fear of Maoist groups, security challenges persist. The difficult terrain and the ongoing threat of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) remain major concerns for security forces. Currently, the camp remains inaccessible by vehicle or motorcycle, requiring personnel and villagers to climb hills to reach the site. Despite the progress in infrastructure, IEDs continue to be recovered in the area on a regular basis.
