Maoist insurgency and security in Chhattisgarh
Overview
Security operations in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma and Bijapur districts have focused on disrupting Maoist activities and managing regional security. In late August, joint operations in the Sukma and Bijapur districts resulted in the seizure of significant weaponry and explosives, including IEDs, BGL launchers, and ammunition. During these operations, authorities also detained a suspected Maoist aide linked to the Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangh.
In the Gogunda area of Sukma, the establishment of a Central Reserve Police Force camp has facilitated the introduction of basic infrastructure, such as roads, electricity, and schools. While these developments have improved local living conditions, security forces continue to face challenges from difficult terrain and the persistent threat of IEDs, which are regularly recovered in the region.
