Sulong the elephant enters Kelantan forests as PERHILITAN deploys drones

The wild male elephant known as Sulong has moved away from the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB) and is believed to have entered the forests of Kelantan. The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) is currently monitoring his movements using drones in suitable locations, supplemented by regular ground patrols.

Sulong, who gained public attention after videos of him traveling alone surfaced on social media, was previously seen near Gerik, Perak. Officials noted that he has a visible injury on his front right leg; however, recent observations indicate his physical condition and behavior remain normal, with the wound showing signs of healing.

PERHILITAN stated that any rescue or intervention efforts will only be conducted when the elephant is in a safe and suitable location to minimize risks to the animal, operational staff, and the public. Authorities have advised the public not to chase, approach, or feed the elephant if encountered.
