Sultangazi market sealed over expired food label tampering
A market in the Sultangazi district of Istanbul has been sealed by municipal police following the discovery of food label tampering. The incident came to light after a consumer noticed a suspicious label on a package of sucuk (Turkish sausage) during a breakfast shopping trip.
Upon peeling back the top label, the consumer discovered that the original expiration date had already passed. After the consumer shared video footage of the discovery on social media, the Sultangazi Municipality Zabıta (municipal police) conducted an inspection of the store.
During the inspection, authorities found multiple products with altered labels intended to mask expired expiration dates. As a result, the business was officially sealed by municipal teams to prevent further sale of unsafe food items.
