Sumatra Barat Railway Passes 10,000 Daily Riders as School Holidays Spur Transport Demand in Indonesia

PT Kereta Api Indonesia’s Sumatra Barat division reported that on Sunday, 5 July 2026, it sold 10 283 tickets for local trains – 132 % of seat capacity – and daily ridership regularly exceeded 10 000 passengers during the school‑holiday period (20 June‑12 July). The division operated 644 trips with a total of 179 216 seats, averaging 28 trips per day. Spokesperson Reza Shahab said the surge reflected growing public preference for safe, comfortable and sustainable rail travel for tourism and family trips.

Meanwhile, PT BRI Multifinance Indonesia introduced a new car‑financing programme aimed at families travelling during the holidays. The scheme offers interest rates starting at 3.97 % flat per year and repayment terms of up to five years. Corporate Secretary Aditia Fakhri Ramadhani highlighted that the product is designed to provide “light and flexible” financing so more Indonesians can acquire new vehicles for holiday journeys.
