Sumatra disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts accelerate

Post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts are progressing across Sumatra, with significant focus on Medan and Aceh Tengah. In Medan, officials report an increase in physical work and budget absorption. The Medan City Government is coordinating with various ministries, including the Ministry of Social Affairs, the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), and the Ministry of Home Affairs, to accelerate recovery. Key priorities include the rehabilitation of markets affected by disasters to restore community economic activity.

In Aceh Tengah, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Kemenko PMK) is monitoring hydrometeorological disaster recovery. Efforts are being made to optimize the collection of data regarding direct economic losses relative to the Regional Gross Domestic Product (PDRB). This data collection aims to align with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, ensuring that damage to agriculture, housing, and critical infrastructure is accurately measured to inform future development policies and reconstruction planning.
