Sumatra provinces prioritize post‑disaster recovery and government asset upkeep

The West Sumatra provincial government defended budget allocations for the maintenance of governor and vice‑governor residences and other government assets, stressing that these expenditures do not diminish the region’s commitment to post‑disaster rehabilitation. Officials said the allocations follow standard planning procedures and that disaster‑recovery programmes, funded through the provincial budget, national transfers and other schemes, remain the top priority for rebuilding infrastructure and housing damaged by floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Recovery Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR) is overseeing the rapid repair of critical infrastructure across Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. The task force monitors progress on roads, bridges, flood‑control walls and river‑bank stabilisation, addressing material shortages, land‑acquisition issues and equipment fuel needs. Projects in Aceh Tengah, Gayo Lues and Ketambe are being fast‑tracked to finish before the peak rainy season, with coordination among the Ministry of Public Works, local governments and project contractors to restore transport links and protect communities from further damage.
