Sumit Roy summoned by Kolkata Police over billboard clash

Sumit Roy, personal assistant to Trinamool Congress General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, has been summoned by Kolkata Police for a second round of questioning. The summons relates to First Information Reports (FIRs) filed following a clash on August 27 during the removal of an allegedly illegal billboard from the party office on Camac Street.

Three FIRs have been registered regarding the incident: one by an officer from the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, one by an officer from the Park Street Police Station, and a third by a Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) official. Roy, who previously underwent interrogation on September 2, is scheduled to appear at the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station on September 7 to address the complaint filed by the KMC official.

The investigation follows earlier questioning of Abhishek Banerjee and Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien. Additionally, the West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Department recently ordered the evacuation of the seventh and eighth floors of the Camac Street premises due to inadequate fire-safety measures.
