Summer discount season begins July 13 in Greece and Israel

Retail stores in Greece and Israel will open their summer sales on Monday 13 July, running through 31 August. Shops may optionally open on the first Sunday of the sales period, 19 July, with suggested hours of 11:00‑18:00.

During the discounts, businesses must clearly display both the original and reduced price of each item. The “original price” is defined as the lowest price the product sold for in the 30 days before the sale (or 10 days for items on the market less than a month). Displaying a percentage discount (e.g., –30 %) is not mandatory, but if shown it must be unambiguous. When more than 60 % of a store’s inventory is discounted, the overall discount rate must be shown in the window, and varied rates should be presented as a range (e.g., “15 %‑45 %”). Outlet and stock‑type stores must show only the final price, deleting the former price.

Consumer‑watch groups advise shoppers to verify price labels, retain receipts, and check return policies, as some discounted goods may be non‑returnable or non‑exchangable. The season is seen as a crucial sales period for the retail sector amid ongoing household‑budget pressures.
