Summer hailstorm blankets Sicily’s Iblei mountains in white
Intense summer hail struck the Iblei mountain area of Sicily, covering fields, roads and rooftops with a sudden white blanket. The storm hit the communes of Giarratana, Monterosso Almo and Chiaramonte Gulfi, causing temporary traffic slow‑downs and brief difficulties for some agricultural activities. Drainage channels struggled to clear the rainwater, and reduced speeds were required on several mountain stretches.
Meteorological forecasts warned of further scattered showers later in the day, with temperatures remaining slightly below the seasonal average. A gradual improvement was expected from Sunday onward, followed by a sharper rise in temperatures on Monday.
