Summer Heat Triggers Women’s Discomfort and Seasonal Depression in Slovakia
Women in Slovakia are reporting a range of heat‑related physical problems during the summer months. Excessive sweating, chafing of skin and breasts, and blisters from tight sandals are increasingly common, as are complaints about overpriced swimwear that adds to the discomfort.
At the same time, mental‑health professionals warn that the same high temperatures can provoke a summer form of seasonal affective disorder (SAD). The condition affects roughly 0.57 % of the global population and is characterised by insomnia, loss of appetite, anxiety and reduced work performance. Psychologist Adam Borland of the Cleveland Clinic advises maintaining a regular routine, limiting exposure to extreme heat and prioritising quality sleep, and seeking professional help if symptoms persist.
