Summer sales kick off on July 13 in Greece and Israel

Retailers in Greece and Israel will begin the annual summer discount period on Monday, July 13, with sales running until August 31. Stores may optionally stay open on the first Sunday of the sales, July 19, from 11:00 to 18:00.

Under the regulations, retailers must clearly show the previous price (crossed out) and the new reduced price on each item. Display of the discount percentage is optional, but if used it must be truthful. When more than 60 % of a store’s items are discounted, the overall discount rate must be shown in the window. Outlets and stock‑clearance shops display only the final price.

Consumer advice highlights common pitfalls: some merchants raise prices just before the sale to exaggerate discounts, so shoppers should research prices in advance, keep receipts, and verify return policies. The season is seen as crucial for household budgets amid economic pressure.
