Sun experiences massive M8-class solar flare

The Sun has experienced a massive M8-class solar flare, marking the most intense eruption of the month. This event follows a period of heightened activity where scientists documented 19 eruptions within a 24-hour window.

The Solar X-ray Astronomy Laboratory, part of the Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, described the flare as a “major event.” The eruption was noted for being only 20% shy of the extreme X-class designation. Observations captured a large plasma ejection rising through magnetic fields, which subsequently cooled and fell back to the star in a phenomenon known as “coronal rain.”

Experts noted that the eruption originated from a new group of sunspots. While three of the recent eruptions reached the M-level—capable of causing minor radiation storms and radio blackouts in polar regions—scientists stated that the impact on Earth remains “neutral,” with no major threats to the planet reported.
