Sunda Strait SAR operation enters tenth day for missing journalists

The search for five journalists and three crew members from the speedboat KM Arupadhatu 1, who went missing while covering the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, has entered its tenth day. The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) operation in the Sunda Strait has been extended by three days following requests from the victims' families.

On the tenth day of the operation, the search area was significantly expanded to 8,509 square nautical miles, divided into 10 sectors. Search efforts include land sweeps from the Carita coast to Anyer Beach in Pandeglang, Banten, as well as maritime and aerial searches. On the tenth day, teams also focused on small islands around Handeuleum Island.

Search efforts have faced significant challenges, including strong waves, high winds, and fog, which have limited visibility. The Banten Provincial Government has pledged continued support and assistance to the families of the missing individuals during the ongoing search process.
