Sunrise releases trailer for new Votoms anime directed by Mamoru Oshii

Sunrise has released a new promotional trailer for ‘Armored Trooper Votoms: Die Graue Hexe’ (Votoms: The Grey Witch), a two-film animated project based on the 1983 science fiction franchise. The production is a collaboration between Sunrise and Production I.G, marking part of Sunrise’s 50th-anniversary initiatives.

Directed by Mamoru Oshii, known for ‘Ghost in the Shell’, the project features a cast including Miyuki Sawashiro as Ash Vamps and Mabuki Andō as Maki Stauffenberg. The music is composed by Kenji Kawai. The films are scheduled to arrive in Japanese theaters on November 20, 2026.

The series returns to the ‘real robot’ genre established by the original work created by Ryōsuke Takahashi, focusing on military-grade machines in realistic conflict settings. This marks the first animated production for the saga in fifteen years.
