Super GT Round 5 at Suzuka: Honda sweeps GT500 podium

The fifth round of the 2026 Super GT season at Suzuka Circuit saw dominant performances in the GT500 class, where Honda secured a clean sweep of the podium. The #16 Honda Prelude, driven by Tomoki Nojiri and Ren Sato, took first place, marking Sato's first GT victory. The podium was completed by the #17 Honda Prelude in second and the #8 Honda Prelude in third.

In the GT300 class, the #9 BMW M4 GT3 driven by Yusuke Tomibayashi and Yuta Fujiwara achieved a pole-to-win victory, marking the first win for both the team and the drivers. Other notable results included an 18-year-old driver, Kiyoshi Umegaki, finishing second in a Ferrari 296 GT3, and Kotaro Niihara, a university student, taking third in a Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Despite strong qualifying performances, some teams struggled during the race. The Syntium LMcorsa LC500, which qualified fourth, suffered from tire issues including a slow puncture during warm-up and again during the race, resulting in a 13th-place finish. Similarly, the Subaru BRZ R&D Sport, which qualified third, struggled with tire matching and finished 28th.
