Super League Greece clubs secure record television rights deals
The landscape of sports broadcasting rights in Greece is undergoing a significant shift driven by major television networks and football club agreements. A competition is intensifying between a coalition of media owners—including Evangelos Marinakis (Mega), Theodoros Kyriakou (ANT1, MAK TV), and Giannis Vardinoyannis (Alpha, Star)—and independent players like Ioannis Alafouzos, who operates SKAI and is launching the Sport FM TV platform.
In the Greek Super League, new broadcasting deals are creating a massive revenue gap between top-tier clubs and the rest of the league. The ‘Big Four’ clubs are projected to generate a combined €62 million annually starting from the 2027-28 season. Panathinaikos leads with €20 million per year via Sport FM TV, followed by Olympiacos at €16 million through Percapita. AEK has secured a record-breaking deal with Percapita worth €12 million per season starting in 2027, while PAOK is also transitioning to new agreements.
This concentration of wealth, where the top four clubs earn nearly €40 million more than the remaining ten clubs combined, has prompted discussions among club owners regarding the potential revival of centralized management for television rights to ensure more equitable distribution.
