Super League 1 to implement goal-line cameras

The Greek Super League 1 will introduce goal-line cameras (GLC) starting from the 8th matchday, scheduled for October 24-25, 2026. This technological upgrade follows a decision by the league's Board of Directors to enhance officiating accuracy and reduce controversial decisions regarding whether a ball has fully crossed the goal line.

Unlike full goal-line technology, which uses microchips in the ball to alert referees via wearable devices, the GLC system utilizes two high-speed, high-definition Hawk-Eye cameras positioned strategically at each goal line. These cameras provide ultra-motion, high-frame-rate footage directly to the VAR and AVAR officials, allowing them to review disputed plays from multiple angles with greater precision than standard broadcast cameras.

Trials for the system are set to take place during the 7th matchday (October 18-19). The implementation aims to address recent incidents where ambiguous goal-line calls impacted match results. In addition to assisting officials, the 50fps replay signal will be provided to host broadcasters to improve the visual quality of the match production for viewers.
