Super Niño phenomenon expected to impact Argentina through 2028
Climate experts are forecasting the long-term impact of the Super Niño phenomenon, which is expected to influence weather patterns in Argentina for several years. Environmental scientist Inti Bonomo notes that ocean warming is altering atmospheric circulation, bringing increased humidity and persistent cloud cover to central Argentina. This cloud cover has contributed to lower temperatures and reduced solar radiation during the spring season.
Mario Navarro, director of the Salsipuedes Climatological Observatory, predicts the phenomenon will persist until early 2028, with peak intensity expected around February 2027. Navarro suggests that while the process is currently developing slowly, it could lead to record-breaking weather events. He anticipates significant rainfall in regions including Córdoba, Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, La Pampa, and Entre Ríos, which could offer economic benefits for the agricultural sector if managed correctly.
