Manaus port construction begins with significant infrastructure investment
Construction has begun on the new Porto da Manaus Moderna in Amazonas, Brazil. Coordinated by DNIT as part of the Novo PAC, the project involves investments ranging from R$ 876 million to R$ 916 million. The new 38,000-square-meter terminal is designed to handle approximately 3.5 million passengers annually and facilitate essential cargo movement. Key features include a passenger terminal, cargo area, floating piers, and sustainable elements like solar-powered parking. Unlike the current facility, access to the new port will be free for passengers and vehicles.
In response to regional logistics challenges, Super Terminais has invested R$ 650 million to modernize operations and prepare for severe droughts in the Amazon. The company is implementing contingency plans, such as transferring floating structures to Itacoatiara, to ensure the continuous supply of the Manaus Industrial Pole during low river levels.
Other regional infrastructure developments include the progress of a R$ 80 million access road to the Miritituba cargo transshipment stations in Pará, which is currently 50% complete. Additionally, Vports is planning R$ 150 million in railway improvements for ports in Espírito Santo to increase cargo capacity. In the Curitiba metropolitan area, works at the Maracanã Terminal are expected to be completed within 90 days to expand public transport capacity.
