Superbike Commission approves 1,200 cc engines and new WorldSBK rules

The Superbike Commission has announced a series of regulatory changes for the WorldSBK championship, ranging from immediate updates to long-term technical shifts. Following a meeting at Donington Park, several decisions were reached regarding engine specifications, fuel, and noise limits.

Starting in 2027, the championship will implement manufacturer-specific RPM limits, which will be adjusted in 500 RPM intervals and monitored via the FIM/DWO rev register. That same year, a single fuel supplier will provide fuel meeting FIM Fuel Category 1 requirements, and the maximum noise limit will be reduced by three decibels to 112 dB.

Longer-term planning includes the introduction of a new Ranked Concessions system in 2028. By 2030, the displacement limit for four-cylinder engines is set to increase to 1,200 cc. Immediate updates also include new protocols for pit lane entry and exit during all sessions.
