Warner Bros. Moves Supergirl to Digital Platforms After Box‑Office Loss
Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced that the superhero film Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock, will debut on premium video‑on‑demand on July 28, 2026, just over a month after its theatrical opening on June 26. The early digital window follows a disappointing box‑office performance: the movie earned roughly $70 million in North America and about $121 million worldwide, far short of its estimated $170‑$186 million production budget and $120 million marketing spend. Analysts project Warner Bros. could lose up to $200 million on the project.
Physical releases—4K Ultra HD, Blu‑ray and DVD—are slated for September 8, 2026 and will include more than 90 minutes of bonus material such as behind‑the‑scenes documentaries, featurettes on the film’s production design, creature effects and an animated short starring Krypto. DC Studios co‑CEO Peter Safran said the film’s results are “just one component of a broader, long‑term strategy” for the new DC Universe, which also includes the upcoming series Lanterns, the film Clayface, and the 2027 release Man of Tomorrow.
