Superior Tribunal Militar upholds conviction for forged firearm documents

The Superior Tribunal Militar (STM) has unanimously upheld the conviction of a civilian for using falsified documents to obtain a Certificate of Registration (CR) from the Brazilian Army. The registration was intended for use as a collector, shooter, and hunter (CAC).

In January 2022, the individuals submitted fraudulent information through the Corporate Management System (SisGCorp) to the 41st Motorized Infantry Battalion in Jataí, Goiás. The falsified documents included address declarations and claims of having no criminal records or pending investigations. Investigations revealed that the provided addresses were incorrect and the individuals had existing criminal records.

The case, which originated in the Federal Court of Jataí, was transferred to the Military Justice system after it was determined that the fraudulent documents were submitted specifically to the Army's system to obtain CAC status. The STM partially granted an appeal only to reduce the sentence from two years, ten months, and six days to two years, eight months, and twelve days of imprisonment.
