Brazilian military court fraud rulings
Overview
The Superior Military Court (STM) in Brazil has issued several rulings involving fraud and document falsification.
In one instance, the court unanimously upheld the conviction of a civilian who used fraudulent information and incorrect address declarations to obtain a Certificate of Registration (CR) from the Brazilian Army for collector, shooter, and hunter (CAC) status. The STM partially granted an appeal to slightly reduce the individual's prison sentence.
In a separate case, the STM unanimously stripped Army Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Vieira do Nascimento of his rank and position. This decision followed a definitive conviction for his involvement in 88 fraudulent bidding processes occurring between 2003 and 2005. The scheme, involving the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) and the Military Institute of Engineering (IME), resulted in an estimated loss of R$ 25.71 million through embezzlement and the certification of services that were never executed.
