Widespread thunderstorms hit France on June 2 2026
On Tuesday 2 June 2026 France experienced a nationwide thunderstorm risk. Météo‑France warned of strong rain, hail (up to 2‑3 cm) and wind gusts ranging from 35 km/h in most regions to 70 km/h in the Alpes‑Maritimes. The eastern cities of Lyon and Strasbourg saw intense storms, while Paris expected showers with temperatures between 17 and 21 °C and a 20‑40 % chance of localised rain. The Rhône department was placed under a yellow vigilance alert and the Alpes‑Maritimes under orange, with the possibility of localised damage and rapid water ingress in low‑lying areas. The storm front moved across the country from west to east, weakening by the evening and giving way to calmer weather on Wednesday. However, a heavier rain episode is forecast for Thursday in parts of the south‑east, with Lyon and Toulouse expected to receive around 20 mm of rain.
