Super Typhoon Champi threatens Taiwan and East Asia FAST-MOVING

Super Typhoon Champi, one of the most powerful storms of 2026, is approaching East Asia, prompting emergency preparations in Taiwan and China. The storm has reached Category 5 intensity on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with sustained winds reported between 245 km/h and 298 km/h.

In Taiwan, authorities have issued land and maritime warnings, with the Central Weather Administration noting the storm's radius has expanded to approximately 320 km. More than 100 flights have been cancelled, and residents have been advised to avoid coastal and mountainous areas due to risks of heavy rainfall, landslides, and waves exceeding 6 meters.

Forecasts indicate the typhoon will pass near Taiwan's northeastern coast before moving toward the Chinese coast, potentially affecting Zhejiang and Fujian provinces. In China, authorities have issued warnings and recalled fishing boats to safety. The storm's trajectory may also lead it toward southern Japan and potentially impact southern South Korea as it weakens.
