Supreme Board of Drugs intensifies medication safety campaigns in Yemen

The Supreme Board of Drugs and Medical Supplies has expanded its awareness and field activities across four Yemeni governorates: Hadramaut Coast, Shabwah, Socotra, and Lahj. These initiatives are part of the 2026 World Medication Safety Week, aimed at promoting safe drug use and fostering a culture of reporting side effects and medical risks.

In Hadramaut Coast, activities included scientific seminars for university students regarding medication errors and drug interactions, as well as field visits to the University Hospital to enhance monitoring mechanisms. Public outreach was also conducted at Mukalla Park in partnership with Hadramout University to educate citizens on safe usage and reporting methods via a dedicated safety application.

In Shabwah, educational lectures were held at the Faculty of Medicine in Ataq to introduce students to pharmacovigilance. In Socotra, nursing students received training on safe medication administration and quality control. Meanwhile, in Lahj, officials visited Radfan General Hospital and Halmeen Rural Hospital to distribute national pharmacovigilance guides and engage with medical staff, including doctors and pharmacists.
