Yemen medication safety awareness campaign
Overview
The Supreme Authority for Drugs and Medical Supplies launched the 11th World Medication Safety Week in Yemen, running from November 2 to 8, 2026. Under the slogan, “Do not ignore side effects... report them,” the initiative focused on enhancing pharmacovigilance and the reporting of adverse drug reactions.
Initial activities were concentrated in Hadramout and Shabwa, involving educational sessions for medical students, doctors, and hospital staff at institutions such as Hadramout University and the Maternal and Child Hospital in Ataq. The campaign emphasized using a dedicated drug safety application to monitor side effects.
As the week progressed, the Supreme Board of Drugs expanded its field activities to include the Hadramaut Coast, Socotra, and Lahj. Efforts included scientific seminars on medication errors, training for nursing students in Socotra on safe administration, and the distribution of national pharmacovigilance guides to medical staff at hospitals in Lahj.
