Supreme Court of India resolves 1,712 cases via Special Lok Adalat

The Supreme Court of India concluded a three-day Special Lok Adalat from August 21 to 23, resolving 1,712 cases as part of the SAMADHAN SAMAROH 2026 initiative. Out of 3,285 listed matters, 1,664 were settled through Lok Adalat benches and 48 were resolved via mediation.

Under the guidance of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, the SAMADHAN initiative (Supreme Court Action for Mediated Adjudication and Disputes Harmonization Across Nation) utilized a structured pre-settlement process that began on April 21, 2026. This process involved identifying cases with settlement potential and engaging litigants and counsel in advance to explore amicable resolutions.

The disputes addressed included matrimonial and property matters, motor accident claims, land acquisition and compensation, taxation, and service and labour issues. A total of Rs 240.94 crore was disbursed during the three-day period. The court noted that additional cases were disposed of amicably between April 21 and August 20 prior to the formal three-day sitting.
