Supreme Court stays case against Uttarakhand gym owner Deepak Kumar
The Supreme Court of India has issued an interim stay on proceedings and a high court order against Deepak Kumar, a gym owner in Uttarakhand. The case originated from a January 2026 incident involving a dispute with activists over the naming of a local shop.
Kumar had challenged the Uttarakhand High Court’s previous refusal to quash a First Information Report (FIR) that accused him of criminal intimidation and rioting. The Supreme Court Bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, has requested a response from the Uttarakhand government while halting the current legal proceedings and the restriction that prevented Kumar from discussing the matter on social media.
