Supreme Election Council announces start of election bans

The Supreme Election Council has announced that the election process for the General Elections of Local Governing Bodies, scheduled for December 6, will officially commence on Wednesday, October 7. This commencement triggers a series of election bans designed to ensure neutrality.

Under the Election and Referendum Law, state institutions, public economic enterprises, local authorities, and other public legal entities, along with public officials, are required to maintain strict neutrality. Prohibitions include making donations or providing assistance to political parties or candidates, using public resources or equipment for political activities, and publishing materials intended to influence voters.

Furthermore, the bans include restrictions on public sector administration: no new vacancies may be announced, and appointments, promotions, or transfers of personnel are suspended. However, certain exceptions apply, such as the hiring of seasonal workers, filling specific vacancies in education through temporary or contract teachers, and certain contracts for mandatory service personnel and assistant physicians in the health sector.
