Jabrayil and Azerbaijani resettlement efforts
Azerbaijan marks the anniversary of the liberation of Jabrayil, a significant milestone in the 2020 Second Karabakh War. On October 4, 2020, the Azerbaijani Army successfully reclaimed the city of Jabrayil and nine surrounding villages, including Karkhulu, Shukurbayli, and Dashkasan, from Armenian occupation.
Following the military victory, the Azerbaijani government has implemented the ‘Great Return’ program to resettle displaced populations. Recent efforts include the relocation of 180 families (591 people) to Sugovushan and 20 families to Talysh. These resettlement projects involve the construction of new residential complexes, schools, medical facilities, and the restoration of essential infrastructure such as electricity, water, and high-speed internet.
President Ilham Aliyev has emphasized that the liberation of Jabrayil and the subsequent reconstruction of settlements like Jojug Marjanly serve as symbols of national will and the restoration of territorial integrity.
