Surabaya child with Down Syndrome dies after alleged bullying

A 10-year-old child with Down Syndrome, identified by the initial Z, has died in Surabaya, Indonesia, following alleged bullying by two neighbors. The incident occurred on September 12, 2026, in the Rungkut district.

The victim's father, SAW, reported that the child was playing on his terrace while his parents were briefly unavailable. Upon returning, the mother discovered the child unresponsive with a blue face, a shoelace tied around his neck, and traces of detergent in his mouth. Despite being rushed to RSUD Eka Candrarini, the child was pronounced dead.

CCTV footage reportedly shows two 10-year-old children, identified as K and F, entering the residence. The father noted that the children had allegedly bullied the victim previously. Following a report to Polrestabes Surabaya, one child, K, has been named a suspect.
