Surabaya Debt Collector Clash Leads to Stabbings and Police Weapon Seizure

A violent confrontation broke out on July 30‑31, 2026 in Surabaya between a group of traditional silat fighters and the debt‑collector organization known as Mata Elang. The clash, which began after debt collectors attempted to tow a vehicle from a café on Jalan Basuki Rahmat, escalated when a collector returned with a sharp weapon and stabbed two valet parking officers, injuring them with slash wounds. Police identified the suspect, referred to only as “S,” detained him, and launched an investigation.

Following the incident, Surabaya police conducted a raid on the debt‑collector headquarters on Jalan Teuku Umar. Led by Kapolrestabes Kombes Pol Luthfie Sulistiawan and AKBP Edy Herwiyanto, officers seized two golf clubs, a machete, a golok, a set of pliers and an iron pipe, which are being treated as evidence of the assault. Authorities said the operation aims to maintain public safety and prevent further violence in the city.
