Heart attack risks rise among young adults due to lifestyle factors
Medical professionals are warning of a rising trend in heart attacks among young adults, particularly those under 40. In Indonesia, the Ministry of Health estimates nearly 700,000 heart attack cases annually.
Dr. Christian Pramudita Budianto of RS Premier Surabaya identifies high-intensity smoking, obesity, and poor dietary habits—such as consuming sugary coffee with high-calorie snacks—as primary drivers. He also noted that accumulated stress and lack of sleep contribute significantly to cardiovascular risks. He advised that chest pain during or after physical activity should not be dismissed as mere fatigue.
In Spain, cardiologist José Abellán highlighted a case of a 27-year-old patient who suffered an infarction due to a combination of smoking, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle. Experts emphasize that while age is a factor, lifestyle choices like maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, and managing blood pressure are critical for prevention.
