Surat hosts Fit India cycling event to promote drug-free youth
The 89th edition of the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative was held in Surat, focusing on the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’. Led by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, the event aimed to promote physical fitness and raise awareness about creating a drug-free nation among the youth.
Participants, including athletes, students, and fitness enthusiasts, engaged in yoga, Zumba, and a 6-km cycling ride from the Sardar Patel Statue to Sarthana Zoo. The campaign aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ vision to combat substance abuse through community participation and active lifestyles.
Former table tennis player Sharath Kamal noted that the movement is essential for addressing the mental and physical well-being of young people. The nationwide campaign saw participation from over 5 million people across 25,000 locations to support the goal of a healthy and disciplined generation.
