Suresh Sallay to return to CID custody after hospital discharge
Retired Major General Suresh Sallay, the former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), is set to be returned to the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following his discharge from the National Hospital in Colombo.
Sallay had been receiving medical treatment at the hospital for 119 days. A 10-member medical panel concluded he was fit for discharge, as reported to the Colombo Fort Magistrate by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris. Sallay is currently held under a third 90-day detention order issued in August 2026.
The former intelligence chief was originally arrested in February 2026 on suspicion of aiding and abetting the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks. The CID is expected to resume its investigation proceedings once his transfer from the hospital is complete.
