Surčin murder: Two suspects arrested in fatal shooting of Novica Elek
Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of Novica Elek, 45, in Surčin on August 29. The primary suspect, 20-year-old Nikola K., was apprehended in an apartment in Obrenovac following a coordinated operation involving the Belgrade Criminal Police Administration and the Security Intelligence Agency.
Investigators allege that Nikola K., who was reportedly wearing a mask, waited for the victim near his family home. As Elek exited his vehicle, the suspect opened fire, killing him on the spot. Security footage captured the assailant chasing the victim before delivering a final shot.
A second suspect, 23-year-old B. S., was also arrested on suspicion of aiding the murder. Authorities believe B. S. facilitated the crime by attaching a GPS tracking device to the victim's car, allowing the perpetrator to locate him effectively. Both suspects have been detained for 48 hours pending appearance before the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade.
