Investigation into Novica Elek murder

Serbian authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of 45-year-old Novica Elek in Surčin on August 29.

Following a coordinated operation involving the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Criminal Police Directorate, and the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA), police apprehended 20-year-old Nikola K. in an apartment in Obrenovac. Investigators allege that K., who was reportedly wearing a mask, waited for the victim near his family home and opened fire as Elek exited his vehicle. Security footage reportedly captured the assailant chasing the victim before delivering a final shot.

A second suspect, 23-year-old B. S., was also arrested for allegedly aiding the crime. Authorities believe B. S. attached a GPS tracking device to the victim’s car to monitor his movements. Both suspects were detained for 48 hours pending their appearance before the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade. The victim, Novica Elek, reportedly had a significant criminal history, including past involvement in an armed robbery.
