Suriname announces student aid and addresses overseas student challenges

The Surinamese government has announced new financial support for students enrolled in pedagogical programs. Following consultations between President Jennifer Simons and the ministers of Finance, Planning, and Education, Science and Culture, the initiative aims to increase enrollment in teacher training programs. The support will cover costs such as registration fees and the purchase of study materials to improve the overall quality of the national education system.

Separately, the Surinamese Student Association (SSA) met with President Simons to discuss the challenges faced by Surinamese students living in the Netherlands. The SSA highlighted difficulties regarding work permits (TWV) and the 16-hour weekly work limit, which hinder students' ability to gain professional experience and support themselves. The association also raised concerns regarding access to student travel products and the impact of these restrictions on the long-term career development of Surinamese youth.
