Suriname extradites two Brazilian crime suspects to Brazil

Two Brazilian men suspected of involvement with the organized criminal group Comando Vermelho were arrested in Paramaribo, Suriname, after cooperation between the Brazilian Federal Police and Surinamese security services. The suspects were located by Suriname’s Directorate National Security and the Judicial Intervention Team during a targeted operation, a vehicle was seized, and the men were subsequently expelled to Brazil, where they were immediately re‑arrested by the Brazilian Federal Police.

The arrests are part of Operation Red Fox, an international investigation into a cross‑border network linked to international drug trafficking, illegal weapons trade, and large‑scale money laundering. Financial investigators highlighted that more than 153 million Brazilian reais were moved through one suspect’s bank accounts between 2020 and 2025, far exceeding his reported legitimate income. Surinamese authorities emphasized that the country is not a safe haven for international criminals and that cooperation to combat transnational crime will continue.
