Suriname government to discuss wage adjustments and 2027 budget

The government and the Ministry of Finance and Planning are scheduled to meet with labor unions this coming Monday to present the state's financial situation. This presentation aims to provide unions with insight into the available fiscal space for potential wage corrections, following the rejection of a previous 10 percent increase offer.

Union demands vary significantly; Ravaksur has requested a 25 percent increase, while other organizations have submitted demands ranging from 40 percent to 55 percent, and in one instance, 400 percent. Minister of Home Affairs Marinus Bee noted that the initiative for this transparent presentation came from the unions themselves.

In a related fiscal development, the Ministry of Finance and Planning has commenced bilateral discussions with various ministers and state organs regarding the 2027 draft budget. These sessions focus on coordinating expenditures, revenues, and policy priorities to ensure efficient use of public resources and long-term economic stability.
