Suriname healthcare officials sign new wage structure agreement

Suriname's Minister of Health, Welfare, and Labor, André Misiekaba, has signed an agreement with healthcare institutions and labor unions to implement a new wage structure for the healthcare sector.

The agreement aims to create a more balanced and transparent compensation system that better reflects the roles, responsibilities, and expertise of various professionals, including nurses, laboratory workers, physicians, and administrative staff. This move is intended to improve staff retention and ensure the continuity of healthcare services.

Several major institutions are involved in this transition, including the Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo, ’s Lands Hospitaal, the Psychiatric Centrum Suriname, the Mungra Medisch Centrum, Sint Vincentius Ziekenhuis, the Diakonessenhuis, Regional Hospital Wanica, District Hospital Marwina, District Hospital Atjoni, and the Regional Health Service (RGD).

While the signing marks a significant political and social milestone, the effectiveness of the new scale depends on its timely and accurate implementation on employee pay slips without administrative delays. This specific group was previously excluded from a general 15 percent salary increase for other civil servants in favor of this customized wage scale.
