Suriname hosts National Security Conference 2026

The Directorate of National Security (DNV) is hosting the 2026 National Security Conference at the Congreshal in Paramaribo. The two-day event, held on September 3 and 4, focuses on the theme of ‘strategic resilience and integrated cooperation.’

Security stakeholders are meeting to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaboration between police, defense, and civilian actors. Minister of Justice and Security Harish Monorath expressed expectations for concrete proposals to increase trust and clarity among these groups. Key topics of discussion include transnational and undermining crime, cybersecurity, maritime security, energy, critical infrastructure, and food security.

Acting DNV Director Gerard Kalka emphasized the need for a proactive approach to identify and signal risks before crises occur. Additionally, Carmen van Dijk, Deputy Director of Security Policy at the DNV, highlighted the importance of breaking down organizational silos and sharing information collectively to safeguard national security. The DNV serves as a strategic body that collects and validates information to advise the president and government.
